NPHI Launches Spanish-Language Guide to Support Families Facing Advanced Cancer

NPHI and the American Cancer Society are expanding access to cancer care by releasing the Advanced Cancer Care Resources Guide™ in Spanish—ensuring language is never a barrier to quality care and support.

The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), in collaboration with the American Cancer Society (ACS), today announced the release of the Advanced Cancer Care Resources Guide™ in Spanish. Originally published in English in 2024, the guide provides vital tools, resources, and support for patients, caregivers, and families navigating life with advanced cancer.

2 Million New Cases Expected This Year Alone

According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 2 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States in 2025 alone, underscoring the urgent need for accessible, reliable information and support. Cancer impacts every family, disrupting lives suddenly and often without warning. NPHI members are at the forefront of responding to these diagnoses by supporting patients and their families wherever they call home—and in ways consistent with their goals while managing advanced illness.

Supporting 41 Million Spanish-Speaking Americans

In the U.S., Spanish is the most commonly spoken non-English language at home: some 13.4 percent of residents age 5 and older speak Spanish at home (~ 41 million people). By releasing this guide in Spanish, NPHI and ACS further our shared mission of increasing healthcare access—ensuring that language is not a barrier to quality cancer care and support.

“At the American Cancer Society, we are dedicated to supporting those living with cancer and their caregivers,” said Dr. Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer at the American Cancer Society. “As a proud partner in the creation of the cancer guide, we are helping expand access to vital information for Spanish-speaking patients and families. This collaboration reflects our unwavering commitment to health equity—ensuring that everyone, regardless of language, can navigate the complexities of cancer care with confidence, clarity, and support.”

Tom Koutsoumpas, Founder & CEO of NPHI, said:
“Every patient and family deserves access to clear, simple information without language standing in the way. By offering this guide in Spanish, we are removing barriers and ensuring that more people can make informed choices about their care. This is what access to clear and simple information and compassion look like in practice.”

Carole Fisher, President of NPHI, added:
“For so many patients, the place they most want to be is home—surrounded by loved ones and comfort. This guide is about giving families the tools and confidence to manage care at home, so that even in the hardest of times, they can experience dignity, peace, and connection.”

NPHI’s goal with this guide is to help patients and caregivers receive care comfortably at home—to reduce unnecessary emergency visits and hospitalizations by giving them trusted guidance and resources they can use when challenges arise.

Dr. Cameron Muir, Chief Medical & Innovation Officer at NPHI, noted:
“Accessible information is a cornerstone of high-quality care. By providing this guide in Spanish, we are helping to ensure that families have the same knowledge, resources, and confidence to manage advanced cancer—no matter their primary language. In doing so, we’re driving both innovation, quality, and equity in care.”
