Matt is a communications professional skilled in messaging, storytelling, brand development, and executive communications. As Communications Director at NPHI, he leads the organization’s internal and external communications efforts, shaping how NPHI tells its story and engages with members, policymakers, media, partners, and the broader healthcare community. He also oversees executive communications for NPHI’s senior leadership, helping elevate the organization’s authority on hospice and advanced illness care at the national level.
Matt plays a central role in the development and execution of NPHI’s signature national events, including the organization’s annual Summit. His work spans event strategy, creative direction, content development, production oversight, branding, and operational coordination, helping bring large-scale convenings to life from early planning through post-event engagement.
Before joining NPHI, Matt worked on policy communications for the office of AARP’s Chief Public Policy Officer, where he gained experience in healthcare policy, research, and advocacy communications. His background also includes communications and research roles across both the nonprofit and private sectors.
Matt’s commitment to community engagement includes eight years leading disability programs for Best Buddies International, where he also served as Advisory Board Chair for the state of Utah. He has additionally supported programs through Special Olympics and Utah’s National Ability Center focused on adaptive outdoor recreation and inclusion.
Matt brings a global perspective to his work, shaped by his upbringing in the United Kingdom and his experience living in continental Europe and across the United States. He holds a B.S. in Geography – Geospatial Intelligence from Brigham Young University and an M.A. in International Relations from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs at Syracuse University. In his free time, Matt enjoys skiing, hiking, swimming, and exploring the great outdoors.
