Regulatory & Compliance Director

Margherita Labson

Margherita serves as NPHI’s Regulatory and Compliance Director. She is a well-known expert in home care quality, legal, and regulatory issues across the home care continuum. An experienced clinician, she holds certifications in both healthcare quality and case management and has practiced across the spectrum of home care services. She has published works and is an experienced presenter, having taught at the University of Akron’s College of Nursing.

She was instrumental in creating the first quality-based recognition for home health franchise organizations and providers delivering community-based palliative care. After completing 25 years as the Executive Director of the home care program for the Joint Commission, she took a sabbatical and spent 18 months studying the needs and challenges of healthcare consumers at home. She now assists organizations in helping home care providers gain recognition for their services, aligning their efforts with other healthcare delivery systems for better-integrated care and services.

Margherita is passionate about advancing care frameworks that improve outcomes, advocating for home-based healthcare including palliative care as a recognized specialty, and promoting the role of the home health aide in the care delivery system.

She currently serves on several boards, including the Home Centered Care Institute, Healwell, California State University Institute for Palliative Care, and the Florida Palliative Care Coalition. She works with organizations to promote regulatory compliance, advance thought leadership in the industry, and foster contemporary practice models that improve care outcomes.

“I think that home-based care is not just the future, it’s the foundation of a more connected, compassionate, and effective healthcare system. My goal is to help providers deliver the highest quality care possible while navigating the regulatory landscape with confidence.”
