Types of Care

Care Our Members Provide

If you or a loved one is facing a serious illness, our members will be there when you need them most.

This section provides an overview of the various care options available through our member organizations. Each type of care is designed to meet the unique needs of patients and their families, ensuring compassionate support throughout the serious illness journey.

What is Hospice?

Hospice care is a special kind of healthcare support for people living with a serious illness as they near the end of their journey.

Hospice honors a person’s dignity and quality of life, recognizing that death is a natural part of life. Hospice helps people live as fully and comfortably as possible, surrounded by those they love.

Rather than trying to cure the illness, hospice focuses on easing symptoms and supporting emotional and spiritual needs. The goal isn’t to make life longer or shorter, but to offer compassionate care that respects each person’s wishes. A dedicated team of healthcare professionals works closely with the patient and their family, making sure they’re part of every decision along the way.

Hospice is for families too.

Hospice providers don’t just care for patients—they care for families and caregivers, too. They offer emotional and grief support, respite, and guidance to help loved ones through difficult times.

Care Before Hospice

Many patients benefit from other types of care long before they need hospice—and our members are here to provide it.

Palliative Care

Palliative care helps people with serious illnesses feel better by easing symptoms like pain and stress. It can be given at any time during an illness, even while receiving treatments. Unlike hospice, which is for people nearing the end of life and not seeking curative treatments, palliative care is for anyone needing extra support. It improves quality of life by providing care for the body, mind, and spirit, rather than targeting the illness itself.

Primary Care at Home

Primary care at home is when doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers come to your home to provide regular medical care. Instead of visiting a clinic or doctor’s office, patients receive check-ups, treatments, and health advice right where they live. This kind of care is especially helpful for people who may find it hard to travel or need extra support to stay healthy at home.

Grief Support

Hospice grief support helps families cope with the loss of a loved one by offering counseling, support groups, and resources during and after the patient’s care. This support lasts up to a year, providing guidance as families navigate their grief. This care may include:

  • Counseling
  • Support Groups
  • Resources
  • Spiritual Support
  • Family Support
  • Bereavement
