Phillip W. Heath is the president and CEO of Samaritan, an independent nonprofit provider of home-based healthcare and supportive services based in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Founded in Moorestown in 1980 as one of the nation’s first hospices, Samaritan now serves more than 11,000 patients and their families annually across five New Jersey counties, offering an expanding range of life-enhancing services.
Before joining Samaritan’s leadership team, Phillip accumulated 30 years of executive experience in healthcare, holding key leadership positions in sales, marketing, business development, government affairs, and operations. His expertise spans hospice care, senior housing, long-term care, and healthcare technology, and he has been deeply involved in corporate community affairs, social responsibility, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Phillip previously served as chief marketing and sales officer and chief administrative officer for a provider of long-term care services and the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). Most recently, he was chief administrative officer (CAO) for a healthcare technology firm, where he oversaw strategic planning, administrative policies, and corporate department performance.
At Samaritan, Phillip is responsible for leading the vision, mission, and strategic direction to provide advanced clinical expertise and compassionate care across a growing family of services, including primary care at home, palliative medicine, hospice care, grief support, education, and advocacy. Before being unanimously elected as president and CEO in 2022, he served as chairman of Samaritan’s volunteer board of trustees for four years, working alongside senior leadership to expand care options, especially for the most vulnerable populations.
Phillip currently serves on the Board of Trustees for NPHI, Responsive Care Solutions, and the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey. He holds a B.A. from Morehouse College and an M.S. in Health Services Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy. He also earned a certificate in Healthcare Leadership from Cornell University and is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Throughout his career, Phillip has embraced a mission of service centered on “providing what the patient wants and what the patient needs.” That priority continues to guide his leadership at Samaritan, ensuring patients and their loved ones receive the best possible care every day.
